Mark - I can't tell you how thankful I am to have found you and your Auto Mailer. It's just what I needed. I'm a novice at this stuff, and your interface is kind to newbies, and the service you provide is fantastic.

I'm just starting-up my forum and needed some way to reach my email list. I've used it to direct send approximately 500 emails so far. I've had a fair number of failures (I'm guessing about about 30%), mostly due to "Bad Greeting", "Socket connect error", and "Dynamic/zombied/spam IPs blocked". I think it's due to what I read elsewhere on your forum about the issues with sending direct, only I don't yet understand what to do about it (I'll keep reading to learn more).

In the meantime, your Auto Mailer is an answer to prayer. If it helps my forum turn a profit, I'll buy your full version. I wish you much success!

Bob

Hi Bob,

Glad to hear it has helped you out. Also, you're right about those 30% failures. For more details, you can read this:

http://www.automsw.com/send_tips.html

Basically, you'll need a static IP with a rDNS entry and to make sure your static IP is not listed in any spam blocking databases.

Thank you Mark!

In your documentation, it says:
Quote:
This can be your ISP's SMTP mail server, or any other SMTP mail server you may have access to. With this method you must specify the SMTP mail server, your "From" e-mail address, whether or not to use authentication, and the port number. If your SMTP server requires authentication, enter in your username and password as well. If your SMTP server requires a secure connection, check this option. This secure connection is often referred to as an SSL connection.

1. Would my webhost be an example of another SMTP mail server? (it provides me with webmail). If so, do I enter "mail.mywebhost.com" or "mail.mywebsite.com" in the Outgoing SMTP mail server box?
2. How do I know if I need authentication?
3. How do I know what port number to use?
4. How do I know if my server requires a secure connection?

I know these must be stupid questions to you Mark, but as I've said before, I really am new at all this stuff. Forgive me if I'm asking questions that require involved answers. If that's the case, can you tell me where I can read up on this stuff to learn it on my own?

Todd

Hi Bob,

Yes, most hosting accounts do also provide you with access to an smtp mail server. Your hosting company should provide you with all of this information (server name, authentication details, port, etc).
